Meet our Prep teacher Nikki
Nikki Ryan
Hello my name is Nikki Ryan and I will be teaching Prep at Holy Trinity. Since becoming a teacher I have spent one year as a CRT in Bendigo and one year teaching in London, England. This included CRT, short contracts and 1:1 intervention tutoring. Upon returning to Australia, I began working as a classroom teacher. This includes six years as a junior school teacher; three years as a grade one-two teacher, three years as a prep teacher, and one year as a grade three-four teacher. In this time I ran several lunchtime and after school clubs including; choir, ukulele and netball.
I have worked closely with a speech therapist to better understand children’s play, phonological, language and literacy development in the early years.
I currently hold two positions of leadership; ‘Learning and Teaching- Inquiry’ and ‘Learning Diversity.’
It is my ambition to instil in students a life-long love of learning and the best way to do this is to develop student’s learning dispositions and establish a growth mindset. I believe students work best when they understand the process of learning; that learning is hard work and will be successful learners when they know how to problem-solve, apply the right strategies and persist. I believe it is a teacher’s role to help learners to set goals and facilitate the achievement of this goal through explicit teaching, giving feedback and providing encouragement and support. I aim to lead students to be positive contributors to our global community, to make decisions that create a better future for all. I believe that ‘it takes a village to raise a child,’ and value partnering with parents to support their children in their learning.
